Bartender Starter Course

COURSE OVERVIEW

This course has been designed to give students the key skills and practical hands on experience in working in an operational bar. Students will get skills in pouring beverages, making cocktails, basic coffee making skills as well as key customer service skills using a point of sale system.

Training will be held from Riverina Community College as well as The Tolland Hotel where all practical sessions will be with industry professionals in a professional environment. In addition to practical skills training students will undertake work placement with a host venue to further develop their skills.

COURSE DELIVERY

This course is delivered over 14 sessions for 14 weeks. Mixed mode delivery which can include practical and theory components.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

  • Students must be 18 years or older to attain their RSA and/or RCG competency card, and to serve, sell or supply alcohol and work in a gaming area of a licensed venue
  • Students holding a current RSA and/or RCG, or whose competency card is within 28 days of expiry, cannot enrol in units SITHFAB002 or SITHGAM001

UNITS OF COMPETENCY

On successful completion of this short course, a Statement of Attainment for the following units will be issued:

ACCREDITED UNITS

  • SITHFAB002 – Provide responsible service of alcohol
  • SITHGAM001 – Provide responsible gambling services
  • SITXFSA001 – Use hygienic practices for food safety
  • FSKOCM07 – Interact effectively with others at work
  • SITHFAB001 – Clean and tidy bar areas
  • SITHFAB004 – Prepare and serve non-alcoholic beverages

Units from SIT20316 Certificate II in Hospitality
These accredited units are Nationally Recognised.

NON-ACCREDITED UNITS

  • 120503T – Money handling in the workplace
  • 120503W – Frontline workers safety in bar and gaming

On completion of this short course, you may be able to undertake:

  • SIT20316 – Certificate II in Hospitality
  • SIT30616 – Certificate III in Hospitality

Riverina Community College has been approved by Liquor & Gaming NSW to deliver RSA and RCG training in NSW in 2019/2020.
