With the strain that COVID 19 has placed on the aged care and disability workforce, the following course has been designed to rapidly upskill persons to work in support care

The course consists of five units of competency that have been identified to meet immediate industry needs. In addition it provides a pathway into the Certificate III in
Individual Support. The course addresses key areas such as complying with infection control policies and procedures, following safe work practices for direct client care, and
providing first aid. Training and assessment will occur in a safe learning environment at Riverina Community College.

Successful completion of the course will provide persons opportunities to enter the workforce or seek a traineeship in the industry.


This course is held every Wednesday and Thursday for 7 weeks.

Mandatory work placement of 15 hours minimum must be completed with an aged care residential facility or community disability organisation employer.


Students will undertake a LLN assessment conducted by way of LLN Robot, which will check current learning, reading, writing, oral communication, and numeracy skills and from these results, allow RCC to offer students the necessary support needed, if any, to help students successfully complete this course.

A current Police Check and Working with Children Check is required prior to commencement of work placement which is payable by student. Student may (depending on work placement host) be required to complete immunity screening prior to being accepted to a work placement host. Any boosters or vaccinations required by the student will be at their own cost.

To successfully complete HLTAID011, students must be capable of performing at least 2 minutes (5 cycles) of uninterrupted single rescuer cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) on an adult resuscitation mannequin placed on the floor.

Student Fee: $525.00 Payable prior to course commencement for ineligible students.


On successful completion of this course, a Statement of Attainment for the following units will be issued:


CHCCOM005 Communicate and work in health or community services
HLTWHS002 Follow safe work practices for direct client care HLTINF001 Comply with infection prevention and control policies and procedures
HLTAID011 Provide first aid

Units from CHC33015 – Certificate III Individual Support.
These accredited units are Nationally Recognised.
