Aboriginal Outreach Support Officer

3 day per week part-time position based in Wagga Wagga

As a member of the Riverina Community College Team, the Aboriginal Outreach Support Officer will be responsible to support the success of the Adult Community Education (ACE) program and promote these services within the local community. The Aboriginal Outreach Support Officer will also provide support in the form of, mentoring, coaching and guidance to RCC students, as well as connecting students with resources to help them succeed in their educational goals. About the role

This role will require you to:

  • Assist in the enrolment and orientation process for the programs and services, including answering questions, conducting interviews, and collecting necessary information.

  • Actively market the organisation’s educational programs and services within the local community using a range of strategies.

  • Conduct regular ‘Contact Appointments’ with active students to identify needs on an individual basis, including identification of vocational and non-vocational barriers.

  • Provide individualised support for students that may require assistance such as referral to appropriate support agencies

  • Complete factual and accurate file notes in Student Management System for ‘Contact Appointments’ including dates and outcomes.

  • Maintain student progression notes / records within the Student Management System and Learning Management System

  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge and compliance within operating guidelines under the Adult Community Education (ACE) Contract

About you

  • An understanding of the Vocational and Educational barriers affecting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples

  • Strong communication skills with the ability to communicate sensitively and effectively with Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people

  • Experience working with and delivering culturally appropriate services within the local Aboriginal Community

  • Highly developed verbal and written communication skills to support internal and external customers

  • Possess strong administrative, data entry skills along with strong digital capability

  • Ability to work autonomously and as part of a supportive team

  • Possess a drive and passion for the betterment of student outcomes and commitment to positive team culture.

Riverina Community College is a Wagga based community organization working within the NSW community colleges framework, supported and partially funded by the Adult Community Education (ACE) unit of Training NSW. The College provides a wide range of community and education programs in consultation with individuals, government, business and community.
Due to an increased demand in many of our training programs, we are looking for passionate and dedicated trainers with flexibility to join our enthusiastic team across the Riverina. Our college is known for its high level of education, modern facilities and small class sizes, and we are now seeking industry professionals to join our progressive education team.

Trainers and Assessors are required for the following:
• Provide First Aid
• RSA / RCG
• Hospitality
• Business and technology
• Individual Support – Ageing and Disability
• White Card
• Construction Pathways
• Hairdressing and Beauty

Duties:
• Contribute industry knowledge to the design of training and assessment
• Prepare and deliver training and assess students
• Monitor student attendance and progress
• Maintain student assessment files
• Conduct knowledge and skills assessments within the classroom and workplace

Essential Criteria:
AE40116 Certificate IV in Training & Assessment or equivalent
• A relevant vocational qualification in the industry in which you will provide training.
• The qualification must be at least the level of competency being delivered
• A minimum of 3-5 years' work experience in the relevant industry
• Demonstrated experience with adult learners
• Demonstrated understanding of the AQF and Standards for Registered Training Organisations 2015
• A current Working with Children Check (or prepared to obtain)
• Demonstrated willingness and ability to contribute to a team environment
• A high level of written and oral communication skills with a proven ability to liaise effectively in educational settings as well as industry and community settings
• Exceptional organisational skills with a highly professional and flexible approach to learning
• Strong interpersonal skills, show social and cultural sensitivity, and flexibility to accommodate the needs of our client base

The above selection criteria will be considered during a pre-employment interview with targeted questions.


A current driver’s licence will be necessary as you may be required to travel to remote areas within the Riverina as predetermined.
