COURSE OVERVIEW

The SHB20216 Certificate II in Salon Assistant is a preparatory qualification which provides a defined and limited range of basic skills and knowledge used in hairdressing salons by individuals who provide assistance with client services.

The combined skills and knowledge do not provide for a job outcome as a hairdresser and this qualification is intended to prepare individuals for further training.

DURATION

Course is delivered over 42 sessions with 12 hours per week face to face training.

Students are required to complete 2-3 hours self paced study at home per week. Students are required to complete 1 full week (5 hours per day) of work experience within a local salon. Students will also be required to complete a portfoilio, working on this for 3 hours per week and completed at the end of the course for submission.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

All students undertake a Language Literacy and Numeracy evaluation prior to enrolling with our LLN Robot assessment tool.

This course is subsidised by the NSW Government for eligible students

  • Concession contribution to eligible students $160
  • Exemptions apply

On completing SHB20216 Certificate II in Salon Assistant individuals may undertake:

  • SHB30416 Certificate III in Hairdressing
  • SHB40216 Certificate IV in Hairdressing
  • SHB50216 Diploma of Salon Management

CREDIT TRANSFER OR RECOGNITION OF PRIOR LEARNING

If you believe you have already undertaken any of this training, or have the current skills, please talk to your Trainer or Training Coordinator prior to course commencement. Credit transfer can only be applied by sighting organismal transcript of studies.

  • Provide head, neck and shoulder massages for relaxation (SHBHBAS002)
  • Maintain and organise tools, equipment and work areas (SHBHIND001)
  • Comply with organisational requirements within a personal services environment (SHBXIND001)
  • Greet and prepare clients for salon services (SHBXCCS003)
  • Apply hair colour products (SHBHCLS001)
  • Recommend products and services (SHBXCCS004)
  • Provide shampoo and basin services (SHBHBAS001)
