COURSE OVERVIEW

Welcome to the Hospitality Skills Program for Term 1, 2024, where we explore the basics of cooking and food preparation. This 10-week course is designed to equip participants with simple skills and knowledge, from food hygiene, creating sandwiches and understanding food labels.

This course is divided into 10 engaging and informative weekly sessions, each focusing on a specific aspect of skills and knowledge. Participants will learn basic theory, practice techniques, and develop confidence.

By the end of this course, participants will:
• Understand food hygiene and practice safe food handling.
• Proper food storage to reduce waste and maintain freshness.
• Develop safe and efficient cutting techniques and knife handling skills.
• Simple measurements for successful cooking.
• Explore various methods of heating food effectively.
• Create delicious sandwiches using a variety of techniques and ingredients.
• Learn to craft a range of beverages, from hot to cold.
• Make informed grocery choices by understanding food labels and nutrition.
• Apply the skills acquired throughout the course to prepare and serve a refreshing beverage and a delectable sandwich.
